Breaking: President Of Haiti Assassinated In His Home

Haiti’s president, Jovenel Moise, was shot and killed in his home, interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph announced Wednesday.

The president’s residence also issued a statement on Wednesday, stating that the attack occurred around 1 a.m. and that the first lady was also injured and is currently hospitalized.

The assassination was carried out by a commando group comprised of “foreign elements,” according to AFP, citing interim Prime Minister Joseph.

Jovenel Mose was a Haitian businessman and politician. He served as Haiti’s 42nd President. He was declared the winner of the November 2016 election in the final official results.

Political unrest and calls for his resignation erupted into a crisis in 2019.

On July 7, 2021, at 1 a.m., unknown Spanish-speaking gunmen assassinated him at his home.

The country is led by Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph.
