Singer, Sound Sultan, Dies At 44

Popular singer, Lanre Fasasi better known as Sound Sultan, is dead.

The 44-year-old ‘Jagbajantis’ crooner succumbed to his cancer battle.

Sound Sultan was a Nigerian rap artist, singer, songwriter, actor, comedian, and record producer. He was regarded as one of Nigeria’s pioneers of modern hip-hop music.

On the 12th of May, 2021, it was reported that Sound Sultan is somewhere in America receiving treatment in the form of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with throat cancer. Unfortunately, he died of the illness on July 11, 2021, at the age of 44.

According to his family, the award-winning musician died after “a long and valiant battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma.” This is a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. According to NORD’s rarediseases.org, it is a group of related malignancies (cancers) that affect the lymphatic system (lymphomas).

Sound Sultan first collaborated with Wyclef Jean when he appeared on “Proud to be African,” a track from Wyclef’s Welcome to Haiti: Creole 101 album, alongside 2face Idibia and Faze. They have also worked together on two other projects: “King of My Country” (2009) and “People Bad” (2010). (2012).

Sound Sultan was named a United Nations Ambassador for Peace in 2012 for his exemplary lifestyle and career.

After a long absence from the music scene, he returned in 2015 with the rap single “Remember.”

Chichi Morah, now known as Farida Fasasi, Sound Sultan’s wife, survives him. The couple is the parents of three children.
