Numerous private broadcasting companies have sprouted up since the deregulation of broadcast media in Nigeria in 1992.
The deregulation inspired the emergence of several privately owned radio stations across the country.
In addition to state-owned stations, the majority of states in Nigeria today boast of private radio stations.
However, one state that is leading the pack on the number of private radio stations is Lagos State.
Lagos State with a population of over 20 million is home to about 46 mostly private radio stations.
FM radio, AM radio, short wave radio, and other radio station types are accessible in Lagos, albeit some are more popular than others.
These stations broadcast News, music, talk shows, sport shows, education, health, sports, weather, etc. Most Lagosions listen to the radio while driving to and from work, commuting, doing household chores, cooking, cleaning, etc.
