Since the Premier League’s inception in 1992, fifty (50) clubs have competed in the league: 48 English clubs and two Welsh clubs.

Clubs that have won the championship since its inception are Manchester United (13), Chelsea (5), Manchester City (5), Arsenal (3), Blackburn Rovers (1), Leicester City (1), and Liverpool (1).

Brighton & Hove Albion – Tony Bloom (Jewish/English)

Since 2009, Anthony Grant Bloom has been the owner/chairman of Brighton & Hove Albion.

Andrea Radrizzani  is an Italian businessman and the majority owner of Leeds United. He is also the chairman and founder of Eleven Sports, a sports broadcasting company.

Andrea Radrizzani announced a 100 percent buyout of Leeds United on May 23, 2017, purchasing the remaining 50 percent shares from previous co-owner Massimo Cellino. As a result, Radrizzani gained complete ownership of the club.

Radrizzani and Leeds United announced on May 24, 2018, that 49ers Enterprises had purchased shares in the club to become a minority investor. The 49’s Enterprises is the business arm of the NFL side San Francisco 49ers owned by Denise DeBartolo York, Jed York and John York.

In 2018, The NSWE group took over the majority of 55% shares from the hands of Tony Xia under whom the club failed to earn a promotion back into the Premier League in 2017-18.

In August 2019, after Aston Villa were promoted to the Premier League, Tony Xia’s remaining shares were bought out by NSWE, assuming full control over the club in the process.

He and his father purchased Watford Football Club from the previous owner Laurence Bassini in June 2012. In 2014, Pozzo became the sole owner.

 

Burnley ALK Capital (84%)

Velocity Sports Partners (VSP), an American sports investment firm managed by ALK Capital, purchased an 84 percent stake in Burnley for £170 million in December 2020.

Alan Pace, the managing partner of ALK Capital, took over as chairman of the club after Mike Garlick stepped down.

Chelsea  – Roman Abramovich (Russian/Israel)

Roman Abramovich is a Russian-Israeli businessman and politician who is worth billions of dollars.

He also serves as the chairman of Brentford Football Club in England and Midtjylland Football Club in Denmark.

Farhad Moshiri increased his stake in the Merseyside outfit to 77.2 percent during the pandemic with a £250 million investment.

Joseph C. Lewis is a British businessman and investor. He owns a majority stake in Tottenham Hotspur. He owns 70.6 percent of Tottenham Hotspur Limited (“THL”), the holding company that owns Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

Lewis has a net worth of £4.33 billion, up £338 million from 2020, according to the Sunday Times Rich List in 2021.

Daniel Philip Levy, Lewis’ co-owner, is a British businessman and the current chairman of Tottenham Hotspur. He has held this position since 2001, making him the Premier League’s longest-serving chairman.

 

Manchester United – The Glazer Family (United States)

In 2005, Malcolm Glazer took hold of a majority stake in Manchester United through investment company Red Football Ltd.

When he died in May 2014, his 90 percent controlling stake was divided equally among his six children.

Manchester United is currently owned by the late Malcolm Glazer’s six children: Avram, Joel, Kevin, Bryan, Darcie, and Edward Glazer.

Joel and Avram had been in charge of the club’s day-to-day operations since their father’s stroke in April 2006.

Avram Glazer listed his shares for sale in March 2021 for £70 million ($97 million).

The Glazers’ fortune stems from vast property and real estate holdings, which enabled them to venture into sports.

Crystal Palace is owned by Steve Parish, Josh Harris, David Blitzer, and John Textor. The quartet is in charge of all major events at the club.

Josh Harris, an American billionaire, also owns the NBA team Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL team New Jersey Devils.

David S. Blitzer is a co-managing partner and minority owner of the New Jersey Devils of the NHL, the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA, Crystal Palace F.C. of the English Premier League, FC Augsburg of the Bundesliga, Waasland-Beveren of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, the Scranton Wilkes/Barre RailRiders of the Triple-A International League, esport company Dignitas, and a senior executive at the private equity firm Blackstone Group.

In December 2015, Blizer and Harris joined with Steve Parish to a take a controlling stake in Crystal Palace F.C.

In August 2021 John Textor, another American investor, joined as a fourth partner with an investment of £87.5 million.

 

Southampton – Gao Jisheng (China) (80%); Katharina Liebherr (Switzerland) (20%)

Gao Jisheng, a Chinese businessman, purchased an 80 percent stake in Southampton Football Club in 2017.

The Liebherr family, who still own a 20% stake in Saints, purchased the club after it went into administration in 2009.

The years that followed saw a meteoric rise through the divisions, from League One to the Championship, and then back into the Premier League in 2012.

Until his death, Thai billionaire businessman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha owned Leicester City. On October 27, 2018, he died in a helicopter crash at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.

Leicester City was purchased in August 2010 by Vichai, his son Aiyawatt, and the Asia Football Investments consortium.

In February 2011, he succeeded Milan Mandari as chairman of the club while the remaining owner, and his son, Aiyawatt, became vice chairman.

King Power Duty Free is owned and run by Srivaddhanaprabha. The club’s former Walkers Stadium was renamed the King Power Stadium in July 2011.

In May 2017, he bought his second football club, OH Leuven in Belgium.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was ranked by Forbes magazine as the 5th richest man in Thailand, reportedly worth US$4.9 billion in October 2018.

 

West Ham United – David Sullivan (Wales) (38.8%); Daniel Kretinsky (Czech Republic) (27%); David Gold (England) (25.1%);  Albert Smith (United States) (8%)

West Ham United is owned by David Sullivan, Daniel Kretínský, David Gold, Tripp Smith, other investors (1.1%).

He purchased Liverpool in October 2010, when the club was experiencing financial difficulties.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) owns Newcastle United with an 80% controlling stake. Staveley owns a 10% share and the Reuben brothers own the final 10%.

The PIF is the Saudi government’s state savings account. Its Chairman is Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

PIF makes the majority of its money from oil, but it has made investments in companies all over the world, including Disney, Uber, Facebook, Starbucks, and pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

The PIF’s collective wealth is 320 billion pounds, but Bin Salman’s personal net worth is estimated to be around 13 billion pounds.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan is a member of Abu Dhabi’s Royal Family and the UAE’s Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Mansour is the founder of the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG), a private equity firm based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The ADUG owns 78 percent of City Football Group, a company that owns controlling shares in Manchester City F.C.

In September 2008, Sheikh Mansour purchased Manchester City Football Club from former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The ADUG also owns Mumbai City FC, Melbourne City FC and New York City FC, as well as several other international football clubs. However, it also holds interests in various other endeavours outside of the sporting world with an extensive property portfolio in the United Arab Emirates and Manchester.

Guo was the 50th richest person in China as of the end of 2019, according to Forbes, with a net worth of $6.5 billion.

The couple purchased Geoffrey Watling’s shares in Norwich City in 1996. Since then, Delia Smith and her husband, Michael Wynn-Jones, have been the club’s joint majority shareholders.

The couple’s net worth was estimated to be £23 million, the lowest of any Premier League club owner.

Michael Foulger, the managing director of Banham Poultry, is also a member of the club’s board of directors. He is the Norwich City F.C.’s deputy chairman.
