Funmi Iyanda, a well-known broadcaster, turned 50 on Tuesday, July 27.

To honour her, some of her friends and associates hosted a birthday dinner for her at a restaurant.

Iyanda took to Instagram to celebrate her birthday. She celebrated the achievement of the milestone age by posting some beautiful photos of herself on the site.

“50 sparkly cheers to all that’s been and all that’ll be”, she captioned the post.

Funmi Iyanda is a film and television producer, media executive, philanthropist, journalist, blogger, and cultural figure who was born on July 27, 1971.

She created and hosted the talk show New Dawn with Funmi, which aired on the national network for more than eight years with unprecedented and yet unrivaled ratings.

New Dawn with Funmi first aired on NTA 10 Lagos in 2000. Because of its success, the show became the longest-running independently produced show on NTA.

The show used its platform as a vehicle for social change and transformation, advocating for the rights of society’s most vulnerable members, particularly women, youth, and children.

Funmi quickly rose to become one of Nigeria’s most watched and revered TV personalities, thanks to her intelligent, nuanced, and irreverent interview style.

Funmi is the CEO of Ignite Media, now known as OYA Media, a content-driven media organization based in Lagos.

In 2011, the World Economic Forum recognized Funmi Iyanda for her web series and named her one of Forbes’ “20 Youngest Powerful Women in Africa.”
