The first Big Brother reality show in Africa aired on May 25, 2003, and lasted 106 days, ending on September 7, 2003.
Cherise Makubale, the Zambian representative, was crowned the show’s first African winner. Mark Pilgrim hosted that particular show.
Big Brother Africa has evolved over time to include national franchises. For example, Big Brother Naija, or “BBN,” is a Nigerian version of the reality show.
Since the show premiered in Africa, several Nigerians have participated as Housemates in both the continental edition and the national variant.
This phenomenal TV show has also brought many Nigerians into fame that has served as a launch pad to their various career aspirations. However, there are some earlier housemates who once featured on the show that you may probably not remember. Wouldn’t you want to meet them?

1. Bayo Okoh
Alexander Adebayo Adetomiwa Okoh, simply known as Bayo, represented Nigeria during the first season of the Big Brother Africa TV show in 2003.
The then 28-year-old economist from Oturkpo, became the sixth person to be evicted from the show.
After the show, Bayo enlisted as a pilot with the Nigeria Police Force.
2. Katung Aduwak
Katung Aduwak, a native of Zonkwa, Kaduna State, was a contestant on the first season of Big Brother Naija.
The show aired from March 5 to June 4, 2006.
Katung, a scriptwriter, film producer, and director, was crowned the show’s winner and received a $100,000 prize.
Following the show, the Political Science graduate worked as Senior Channel Manager at MTV Base, Senior Creative Director at VIACOM International, and Executive Director at Chocolate City for many years.
He is currently the CEO of One O Eight Media and Campfire Media’s African Partner.
3. Uti Nwachukwu
Uti Nwachukwu appeared twice on the Big Brother Africa TV show.
He represented Nigeria in Big Brother Africa season 3 in 2008, where he was the third evictee.
Uti appeared in Big Brother Africa 5: All-Stars in 2010. He eventually won the competition.
Since winning the show, the native of Aboh Kingdom in Ndokwa-East Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, has excelled in both acting and TV show hosting.
4. Goldie Harvey
Goldie, or Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey, was a professional singer.
She appeared in the Celebrity Edition of Big Brother Africa’s seventh season in 2012.
Goldie was the show’s eighteenth housemate to be evicted.
She complained of a headache after returning to Nigeria from the 2013 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, and was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
She died on February 14, 2013, of ‘hypertensive heart disease,’ which caused a “intracerebral hemorrhage.” She was 31 years old.

5. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu is the longest-running host of the reality TV show Big Brother Naija. He has hosted the show five times.
Prior to hosting, the Okija, Anambra State native had been a housemate on the Big Brother Naija reality show.
He was one of 14 housemates on the first season of the reality show in 2006. He came in eighth place.
Following the reality show, Ebuka signed endorsement deals with a major telecommunications company and a well-known brewing company.
The lawyer and media personality has gone on to host a number of television shows.
6. Ofunneka Molokwu
Ofunneka Molokwu, a Delta State native, was the first-runner up of the 2007 Big Brother Africa show.
Following the show, she appeared in a few Nollywood films.
Chika Anyanwu, a medical doctor, married her in late 2010.
Ofunneka and her family now live in Adelaide, Australia.

7. Gideon Okeke
In 2006, Gideon Okeke appeared as a contestant on the first edition of Big Brother Nigeria. He was the sixth housemate to be evicted.
In 2008, the Ajegunle-born actor joined the cast of MNET TV series Tinsel. He remains one of the longest serving actors on the show.
Gideon has also appeared on the South African TV series Jacobs Cross. In 2014, he played the role of Bernard in the irokotv series Poisoned Bait.
In addition, Gideon was the host of the DSTV game show Money Drop.
Gideon Okeke – a Bio-Chemistry graduate of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University – has also featured in numerous Nollywood movies.

8. Karen Igho
In 2011, Karen Igho became a joint winner (together with Wendall, a Zimbabwean) of the sixth season of the Big Brother Africa reality show.
Karen, who was born in Jos, Plateau State, has tried to stay relevant in the industry by appearing on the covers of fashion magazines and anchoring numerous social events, radio and TV shows.
Karen Igho joined the Naija FM 102.7 team as an on-air personality on July 1, 2012.
On December 13, 2014, the theater arts graduate of SouthWark College in London married Jaroslav Rakos, a Czech Republic citizen.
9. Tayo Faniran
In 2014, Akintayo John Faniran, also known as Tayo, represented Nigeria in the ninth season of Big Brother Africa.
The holder of a Higher National Diploma in Maritime Studies was one of the favorites to win the show, but he was announced runner-up.
Tayo went on to appear in several Nollywood films and the Africa Magic series “Tinsel” after the show.

10. Vina
The then 26-year old Radio Presenter Malvina Longpet, simply known as Vina, represented Nigeria during the sixth season of the show.
On Day 91, the Media Production degree holder finished seventh.
Vina went on to pursue a career as a TV and radio show host after Big Brother Africa.
