RMD’s First Wife: What You May Not Know About Her

Richard Mofe Damijo, known famously by the sobriquet, “RMD”, is without a doubt one of Nigeria’s most desirable men. RMD’s First Wife For decades, the Warri-born legendary actor, producer, and former Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism has enchanted audiences with his stagecraft and elegant demeanor. Despite being in the public eye for so long, RMD has always managed to evade controversies.

RMD is married to Jumobi Adegbesan, a former TV girl who once anchored a breakfast show on AIT in the 2000s. Indeed, many of his fans and followers may be unaware that the renowned actor was previously married to another well-known media figure. Her name is May Ellen Ezekiel (later May Ellen Mofe-Damijo).

May Ellen Ezekiel, also known as MEE, was the legendary actor’s first wife.

She was born in Ghana and has worked for numerous Nigerian news organizations, including Sunday Concord, Newswatch, and others. She went on to become the editor of the now-defunct Quality magazine .

MEE later founded Classique Magazine and became its publisher. Dele Momodu, Ben Charles Obi, and Rudolf Okonkwo were among the journalists that worked for the publication.

She also produced and hosted a television talk show “Mee and You” on NTA 2 channel 5, Lagos. RMD’s First Wife MEE also wrote a few books including “Dream Maker” and “Center Spread“.

On a personal note, she was once in a marriage that did not last. The marriage produced a daughter named Nichole Onome.

At the peak of her career, she married Richard Mofe Damijo – a then fledging actor who was 5 years younger. In March 23, 1996, she died during a fibroid operation at a private hospital, Providence Hospital in Surulere, Lagos. RMD’s First Wife

According to the doctor, it was a strange and “unusual” occurrence that baffled the six doctors who thought they were handling a routine surgery to remove the fibroid from her. MEE had two surgeries earlier also to remove fibroid. This led to the second surgery which led to her death. She was aged 39. In 2000, RMD got married to his second and current wife, Jumobi Adegbesan and their marriage is blessed with kids. The multiple award-winning actor has five children, four biological and one adoptive from his former marriage to May Ellen Ezekiel.
