6 Things To Know About New Acting Inspector-General of Police, Egbetokun
President Bola Tinubu removed Usman Baba from his position as Inspector General of Police on Monday, and DIG Egbetokun Olukayode was named as the acting IGP.
The Police Service Commission had already approved Egbetokun’s appointment as a deputy-inspector general of police earlier in the year.
Here are five things to know about the newly appointed acting IGP.
- In 1999, Egbetokun was appointed Chief Security Officer to President Tinubu when he was Lagos State governor.
- The new acting IGP has previously held the position of Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
- He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos, in June 1987.
- Egbetokun was a lecturer at the Yaba College of Technology in Lagos before to joining the Nigeria Police Force.
- He also has an MBA from Lagos State University, Ojo, a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, and an MSc in Engineering Analysis from UNILAG.
- Egbetokun previously held the positions of Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, Squadron Commander of Mopol 5 in Benin City, Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Fraud Unit at the FCT Command in Abuja, Chief Superintendent of Police for Administration at the Lagos State Command Headquarters in Ikeja, and Area Commander of Osogbo at the Osun State Command.
