8 Famous Instances Of Paternity Fraud Uncovered After DNA Tests

DNA tests have become a popular method of determining a child’s paternity as well as a useful tool in criminal investigations.

Paternity testing can identify a child’s father with 99.99 percent certainty. For definitive answers, a simple cheek-swab test is all that is required.

Indeed, the possibility of DNA test results disrupting “peaceful” homes exists.

Below, we highlight some famous paternity frauds uncovered after DNA tests were conducted.

Nii Odartey Lamptey

Nii Odartey Lamptey, a former Ghanaian international footballer, was confronted with one of the most heinous situations a man can face.

Through DNA testing, the former Aston Villa player discovered that all three of his children — children he has fathered and cared for since their birth — are not his biological children.

This means he has spent nearly his entire married life (approximately 20 years) raising children who are not biologically his.

Lamptey claims he suspected his wife of cheating on him and ordered a DNA test to prove it. His suspicions were confirmed by the test.

Despite having suspected his wife of infidelity for some time, Lamptey chose to stay in the marriage out of love for her and the stability of a business chain that they jointly own.

Lamptey eventually divorced his wife.

Femi Kuti

Femi Kuti, a four-time Grammy nominee, addressed the results of a paternity test that revealed the true paternity of some of his children in December 2014.

The Afrobeat king revealed during the interview that he was not the biological father of two of his children.

Femi Kuti claimed that a DNA test he had taken revealed this.

He was hurt and disappointed to learn that the children were not biologically his. “I had no idea someone could offer you something that wasn’t yours,” he explained.

He was hurt and disappointed to learn that the children were not biologically his. “I had no idea someone could offer you something that wasn’t yours,” he explained.

According to Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s eldest son, the revelation was made public in 2006. “And there was already a rumour in the Shrine that one of my children didn’t look like me, and my sister advised me to address the issue.” “I took all of my children for DNA testing for security and family reasons, and I discovered that two out of five were not my children,” he explained.

He also stated that after making this discovery, he returned the children to their mothers.

Duncan Mighty

Duncan Mighty, popularly known as Port Harcourt’s first son, made a lengthy Instagram post on Friday, 4 December 2020.

In the post, he accused his wife, Vivien, of infidelity and attempting to seize his assets by causing him harm.

He also revealed that he had a DNA test that proved he was not the biological father of his daughter, Mitchell.

In the post, he stated that Mitchell’s father is a certain Mr Frank.

“Mr FRANK is Brights best friend whom is responsible for taking them to the highest and most powerful JuJu. FRANK and Bright are the fathers of Mitchell as DNA (test) has proven me negative,” He penned.

The 37-year old Mighty and Vivien had been married for five years and had three children together.

Tunde Thomas

Tunde Thomas, also known as Tunde Gentle, was a Nigerian banker and associate director of GDL Nigeria.

He was married to Moyo Thomas, an employee of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), and “they had two kids.”

Tunde later discovered that his wife was having an affair with her boss, Adam Nuru, the MD of FCMB, who turned out to be their two children’s biological father.

A DNA test was not initially performed to determine the paternity of the children. However, it was reported that Moyo informed her husband that she was leaving Nigeria with the children for the United States, only to call him upon arrival and inform him that the children did not belong to him.

As a result of the revelation, Tunde suffered a stroke, but he recovered.

Tunde returned home from work on December 15, 2020, only to collapse and die instantly by his staircase. The cause of death, according to the autopsy report, was heart failure.

Justice Anthony Okorodas

On Thursday, January 28, 2021, Delta State High Court Judge Anthony Ezonfade Okorodas publicly stated that the three children he had with his estranged wife are not his.

Okorodas accused his ex-wife Celia Juliet Ototo of cheating on him during their 11-year marriage.

He was persuaded to conduct the DNA tests after receiving an anonymous call during the COVID-19 lockdown in April 2020, he claims. One of the children, according to the informant, was not his.

He stated that after the DNA test revealed that he was not the father of his last child, he decided to conduct DNA tests on his former wife’s two remaining children, the results of which also revealed that they are not his.

Pretty Mike

Pretty Mike, a Lagos-based socialite, told the story of how a lady tried to slander him with a pregnancy in May 2021.

The socialite, whose real name is Mike Eze-Nwalie Nwogu, revealed the incident on Instagram eight years ago.

Mike stated that he met Amaka shortly after arriving in Nigeria in a nightclub. He claimed they had partially unprotected sex because he was drunk.

Amaka called Mike six months after the encounter to tell him she was pregnant, according to Mike.

He claimed he initially objected because he expected her to have informed him sooner if he was the true cause of the pregnancy.

However, after the child was born, a DNA test revealed that he is not the child’s father.

MKO Abiola

Chief MKO Abiola died in detention in July 1998, after being imprisoned for declaring himself the winner of Nigeria’s annulled presidential election in 1993 by former military dictator Sani Abacha.

Abiola left a Will, dated October 25, 1989, which included a provision requiring all of his children to undergo DNA testing before inheriting any portion of his estate.

He made an exception for six of his children: five from his first marriage and one from his second marriage.

For nine years, the Abiola family said little about the late business mogul’s estate, until the estate administrator revealed the DNA test results to the public.

Later, it was revealed that 25 of the children allegedly failed the DNA test.

So far, 37 children have been confirmed to be DNA compliant, in addition to the six exempted children and another seven who died but were not named in the Will.

There are a total of 21 children who have yet to take the DNA test.
