Longe Appointed As Pioneer VC Of West Midlands Open University
Professor Olumide Babatope Longe has been appointed as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of West Midlands Open University.
West Midlands Open University is Nigeria’s first privately operated Open University.
Prior to his appointment, Longe was the Dean, School of Computational Sciences and Informatics at Academic City University College, Ghana.
With Longe’s appointment, the first privately operated Open University in Nigeria is set to commence academic activities.
Professor Olumide Longe has a wealth of professional and leadership experience from his illustrious career in computer science, which included stints at the University of Ibadan, Adeleke University, American University of Nigeria, Caleb University, and Academic City University College.
Notably, he is a distinguished Fulbright, UI-McArthur & Heidelberg Laureate Forum Fellow; Co-Convener, Accra Bespoke Innovations and AI Africa Stakeholders Forum; and Convener, iSTEAMS Multidisciplinary Conference worldwide.
It is anticipated that his experience and talent for disruptive innovation will lead the university to prominence.
Earlier in the year, the Federal Government granted West Midlands Open University, a new online university, a license to offer degree-granting programmes online in Nigeria.
West Midlands Open University, the Lagos-based institution, was founded by High Chief Adebayo Akande.
