Christopher “Play” Martin

Christopher Martin is one half of the late 1980s/early 1990s hip-hop/comedy duo Kid ‘n Play.

After the duo split in 1995, Play became a born-again Christian and focused on Christian hip-hop.  He devotes his time to working on Christian-based hip-hop music projects.


Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks, the actor, revealed that he was exposed to a variety of religions as a child, including Catholicism, Mormonism, and the Church of the Nazarene. He does, however, admit that he became a Christian in high school and that he has a strong faith in God.

He has stated in a number of interviews that he is a church-going Christian, but he has never stated which denomination he belongs to.


Mr. T

Mr. T is a well-known character who appeared in the 1980s television series The A-Team and the 1982 film Rocky III.

The actor, television personality, retired bouncer, bodyguard and professional wrestler was the son of a minister. However, he did not become a born-again Christian until 1977.

Mr T gave away all of his gold, a signature of his look, after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of America in 2005. It would be a sin before God, he said, for him to continue wearing it after seeing people lose their lives, land, and property.


Denzel Washington

Award-winning star Denzel Washington has always been open about his religious beliefs. He is unquestionably one of the most well-known born-again Christian celebrities.

He is not afraid to evangelize in public and to encourage people to seek God and follow him.

Denzel’s father was a reverend for the Church of God in Christ for 60 years, where he still worships.


Angela Bassett

Angela Bassett professes to be a devout Christian. In interviews and conversations, the award-winning actress freely discusses her spirituality.

Her work as an actress and producer has been greatly influenced by her faith; in fact, she was the voice actor for Queen Esther in The Bible Experience, an audio Bible project.

The “U Can’t Touch This” rapper MC Hammer was raised as a Pentecostal Christian. However, he strayed from his faith, particularly during the pinnacle of his career and success.

He rededicated his life to Christ after losing $30 million and going bankrupt. In addition, he has been ordained as a Pastor in the Church of God in Christ.

He reintroduced the “MC” into his name (he renamed himself Hammer in the ’90s)”, claiming that it now stands for “Man of Christ.”

MC Hammer devotes a significant amount of his time to prison and youth ministries.


Cheryl “Salt” James

Cheryl James, aka “Salt,” was a member of the Salt-N-Pepa girl rap group in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

James, in particular, wanted to make changes in her life in the late 1990s: she is now a devout Christian (she collaborated on a contemporary gospel recording titled “Stomp” with singer Kirk Franklin in 1997), and she was suffering from depression and bulimia.

Salt-N-Pepa officially disbanded in 2002.


David Oyelowo

At the age of 16, Nigerian-British actor David Oyelowo surrendered his life to Christ. That decision, he claims, has a significant impact on his career and life choices today.
