UFC: Nigerian-Born Israel Adesanya In Epic Rematch To Defend His World Title

In the main event of UFC 271, Nigerian-born Israel Adesanya and Australian Robert Whittaker will continue their rivalry.
The pair initially battled in October 2019, when Whittaker lost to his Nigerian challenger in pre-pandemic times, with the fight taking place at the Melbourne Marvel Stadium.
Now the Australian has the opportunity to reclaim the title in Houston, Texas.

Whittaker has won three straight fights, and while Adesanya has successfully defended his light heavyweight title after three defenses, he lost the title last year.
In October 2019, Adesanya defeated Whittaker in Melbourne, Australia, to begin his reign as the division’s champion.
‘The Last Stylebender’ is still undefeated at middleweight, but he lost to Jan Blachowicz in his light-heavyweight debut last March.
Whittaker, on the other hand, has won three straight matches after his loss to Adesanya, defeating Kelvin Gastelum, Jared Cannonier, and Darren Till.
Now, he will be looking to improve his performance against Adesanya at UFC 271.
The fight between the champion and former titleholder battle is one of the most anticipated rematches in recent memory.
The highlight event will take place on Saturday, February 12 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Adesanya has been unstoppable at middleweight, with only a brief foray into the light heavyweight title picture blemishing his otherwise flawless MMA record.
“The Last Stylebender” (21-1) has a perfect 10-0 record as a middleweight, defeating top 185-pounders like as Marvin Vettori (twice), Paulo Costa, Yoel Romero, Kelvin Gastelum, Derek Brunson, and Anderson Silva. Then there’s the man he defeated to earn the UFC middleweight championship.
When the two fight inside the Toyota Center in Houston on Feb. 12, middleweight king Israel Adesanya will seek to dethrone the man from whom he won the belt, Robert Whittaker.
The fight is scheduled to happen on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at 4 am Nigerian time.
