Nigeria, a nation rich in talent and culture, has produced a large number of great people who have excelled in their different disciplines. These Nigerians have achieve excellence in a variety of fields, including entertainment, sports, IT, and academia.
On June 22, 2023, another Nigerian student, Ifeoma Amuche, made headlines after being chosen to deliver the valedictory speech at Southwest University China.
Ifeoma Amuche, a Nigerian-born student of Southwest University, China, was chosen out of more than 9,500 graduates to give the valedictory address, which was another victory for Nigeria.

Ifeoma Amuche impressed many with her language competence when she gave her farewell address in Mandarin.
According to the US Department of State, Mandarin is one of the world’s most “super-hard” languages for native English speakers to acquire. And Ifeoma Amuche flowed so fluently in the language while deliverying her farewell speech.
Here’s what we know about Ifeoma Amuche
Ifeoma Amuche is from the community of Eziabor in Oko, one of the 16 towns that make up Anambra State’s Orumba North Local Government Area.
Oko is the hometown of Alex Ekwueme, who served as Nigeria’s first vice president between 1979 to 1983.
Education
Ifeoma Amuche graduated from First Hill Secondary School Umuchiana in Ekwulobia in Anambra State.
She later proceeded to Federal Polytechnic Oko to pursue a degree in library and information science before traveling to China in 2019.
Amuche stated on her LinkedIn page that she spent a year working as a Chinese translator at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.
Later, she claimed to have worked as a secretary and a Chinese translator at Sinoki LTD in Abuja before moving to China.
At Southwest University China, Amuche joined the International Student Poetry Performance Club. There, she majored in Chinese Language and Literature.She helped the group win the 2022 ASEAN Art Festival Poetry Reading Prize by outperforming 25 other nations.
There is a rising need for Mandarin Chinese interpreters in the corporate, legal, and political spheres due to the language’s approximately one billion native speakers.
Amuche can take advantage of the high need for Chinese interpreters, particularly in government, thanks to her completion of an online course on International Organizations for Interpreters on Coursera in March 2022.
